E-SERIES
USER MANUAL

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR PURCHASE OF THIS MELON HELMET

The Melon E-Series Helmet represents the highest quality of protection against outside impacts against the head, be that whilst riding a bicycle, skating, inline blading or skate boarding (Fig.4). IMPORTANT: A helmet can only function as it was designed to when it is worn correctly, has been adjusted to fitted the user’s head and is carefully fastened. HOWEVER it is not possible to guarantee that a helmet can protect the wearer against all possible impacts – some accidents result in head injuries that cannot be prevented by ANY helmet.

Also helmets cannot protect against penetration by sharp objects. Exercise care and good judgment whenever you ride. Comply with all local traffic regulations and do your part to avoid accidents of any kind. Make sure that you can see clearly and that your peripheral vision is not blocked. Don’t take unnecessary risks just because you’re wearing a helmet. If you wear spectacles the arms must pass between your head and the front straps (hence the arms must be inside the straps).

CAUTION! This helmet should not be used by while climbing or doing other activities where there is a risk of hanging or strangulation. This is especially important for children, so make certain that your child removes the helmet before playing on or in playgrounds, or similar areas. Please make sure to read this user manual in its entirety before use. These instructions build an integral part of the product. This is why we encourage you to keep these instructions as well as the original packaging in safe keeping, should questions arise at a later point in time.

WHICH HELMET SIZE IS BEST FOR ME AND HOW DO I ADJUST THE HELMET?

Your Melon helmet can only offer its total protective potential when it has been adjusted correctly and fits superbly (Fig. 3). The helmet is designed to be retained by a strap under the lower jaw. Please test several helmet shell sizes in order to compare, also measure your head with a tape measure to double-check the size you have against the chart on the side of the packaging. We recommend choosing the helmet shell that fits firmly, but comfortably on the head. The helmet should not move or wiggle when you shake your head. Take the helmet in the chosen size and turn the adjustment ring in an anti-clockwise direction until it reaches its largest position. Now place the helmet on your head. If the helmet is too loose, then first exchange the breathable Coolmax® padding set of the helmet with the next larger size (Fig. 6).

Should the helmet still be too loose exchange those against the next larger padding set. The different padding sets can also be combined to create intermediate sizes. The Spin-Dial size adjuster should only be used to further fine tune the fit (Fig. 5b). To tighten the helmet you turn the dial in a clockwise direction. To loosen, turn the dial in an anti-clockwise direction. Once the right size is found and adjusted correctly, the helmet should sit firmly, but comfortably on the head.

WHEN DOES THE HELMET FIT PROPERLY?

The helmet should surround the head easily, and should be worn level. The front helmet edge should sit 2 finger widths above the bridge of the nose (Fig. 3). It is easy to check if the helmet fits correctly. The straps positioned, that they do not cover the ears. The buckle positioned away from the jawbone. Straps and buckle must be adjusted to be both comfortable and firm.

HOW DO I ADJUST THE CHINSTRAP CORRECTLY?

Position the Strap Adjuster (Fig. 5c) in such a way that either junctions or the straps themselves don’t touch your ears. To adjust the straps correctly it is imperative to make sure to adjust both left and right straps evenly to the right length. To do this open the strap lock on each Melon Strap Adjuster. Please notice that the rear strap should be longer than the front (Fig. 3). Once the right length has been found please close these locks.

Additionally the right side chinstrap can be shortened in its entirety, by pulling it further through the Fidlock® magnetic buckle loop (Fig. 5d). To check for correct fit, place helmet on head and make any adjustments indicated. Securely fasten retention system. Grasp the helmet and try to rotate it to the front and rear. A correctly fitted helmet should be comfortable and should not move forward to obscure vision or rearward to expose the forehead. Do not adjust the helmet or helmet components while riding as this can cause an accident.

HOW DOES THE FIDLOCK® MAGNETIC BUCKLE WORK?

The Melon E-Series helmets come fitted with Fidlock® magnetic closure systems. These are very simple to use and close by placing both ends on top of each other. To open the closure, simply push the outside part in the direction of the arrow (Fig. 5d).

VISIBILITY ALSO AT NIGHT

The E-Series helmet is fitted with front and rear lights. Switch it on at dusk and in the dark by pressing the -button on the control unit (Fig. 5a). Press once: The front and
rear lights are permanently lit. Press twice: Front light is on permanently, rear light flashes (power-saving). Press three times: all lights off. Charge your helmet’s battery
after each extended use with the included USB-C cable, which you can connect to a suitable USB plug or to any powered device with a USB socket. To do this, lift the
silicone cover under the symbol (Fig. 5a).

The Melon E-Series helmet also has reflective logos at the front and the back, made of high quality 3M reflective material. In addition, the light-coloured sections in the straps are reflective as well. The Melon E-Series helmet, although equipped with lights, does not replace the legally required lights on the bike! Never ride at night without proper lighting and reflectors.

WARNING

  • This helmet is designed and intended exclusively for the use of pedal cyclists and for skateboarders and roller skaters. It is not intended for and will not provide adequate
safety protection if used for motorised transport, motorsport or moped use.

  • Before setting off, always make sure the chinstrap is closed.

  • The helmet is not to be painted or have stickers stuck on its surface. This is because the helmet may damaged and rendered ineffective by petroleum products, cleaning agents, paints, adhesives and the like, without the damage being visible to the user.

  • Do not remove any of the original component parts of the helmet other than as recommended by the manufacturer.

  • The helmet should be checked in regular intervals for damage. Small indentations and scratches on the surface however should not reduce the overall protective
effect, if not effected by severe blow.

  • The helmet is designed to absorb the energy of an impact by partial destruction or damage to the helmet itself. The helmet may, after receiving an impact, be damaged to the point that it is no longer adequate to protect the head against further impacts, and this damage may not be visible to the user.

  • When repairing (repairable damage!) any part of the helmet, use only original parts!

  • The helmet is not to be stored or hung up, hanging from the chinstrap.

  • You should avoid wearing the following under your helmet: headscarves, beanies, long hair in a bun, or similar, as this could lead to subsequent injuries.

  • No attachments should be made to the helmet except those recommended by the helmet manufacturer.

  • Do not attach any objects such as mirrors or other lights to your helmet. The shell
of the helmet can deform under high temperatures (more than 43° C). Do not place naked flames, such as lit candles, on or near the product.

  • This helmet was developed to protect your head. It does not offer protection from injuries to the neck, the spinal column, or other body parts capable of being affected by an accident.

  • Depending on the type of impact, even a low speed accident can result in a serious head injury or fatality, even while wearing a helmet.

  • All accidents are different, and it is not possible to state if a given helmet will provide protection in certain accidents. Some parts of some helmets taper around the lower edges and these thinner sections may not protect as well as parts of the helmet which are thicker.

  • This helmet may not be suitable for extreme riding such as jumping and high speed events.

  • CAUTION! This helmet should not be worn during activities where a risk of strangulation is high through capture, such as climbing.

  • Headphone use may restrict the user’s ability to hear surrounding circumstances that can lead to an accident and possible injury or death

HOW DO I LOOK AFTER MY HELMET PROPERLY?

Clean this helmet only with a mild detergent and warm water or a damp cloth. The Coolmax® pad sets can be hand washed with a gentle detergent at 30 ˚C. These must be drip dried at room temperature.

HOW LONG CAN I USE THIS HELMET SAFELY?

A helmet has a limited lifespan in use and should be replaced when it shows obvious signs of wear. All components of this helmet are exposed to use. Dependent on the use, care and maintenance the time to replace such a helmet is difficult to calculate or predict, but we recommend that a replacement must be done after 4 years from the date of manufacture. If the helmet has been exposed to excessive light or heat, rough handling, chemicals, heavy use, or improper storage that has resulted in dents or cuts, it may decrease the lifespan and safety of the helmet.

When storing this helmet, make sure it is stored safely, in an area where it is protected from direct sunlight and weather influences. So that it can’t be damaged or potentially hurt others, through falling. We advise strongly for your own safety to only use original parts. Should any part of the shell be broken or have sharp indentations to it or show obvious signs of wear, then the helmet must be replaced as it is no longer fit for use.
